Twenty-nine year old Attorney Danny O’Brien has lived a charmed life until now. The only child of a prominent bank president and a devoted mother, Danny married an aggressive, rough and tumble defense lawyer she met in law school. They lived in the same affluent coastal community south of Boston where Danny grew up. Danny’s husband, Joe Camarrata, made plenty of money so Danny left her job in Boston and opened her own practice in their home town. Life was so good, Danny was trying to get pregnant. Everything was going according to plan.
Then one morning a gun is found in Danny’s briefcase at a Boston courthouse. Within hours, Joe, who has been defending a cop killer, and an unidentified woman are found naked and dead in his hotel room from very unnatural causes. The gun in Danny’s briefcase turns out to be the missing weapon used to kill the cop. The prosecutor becomes very interested in Danny.
Fortunately, Danny’s mother is a lioness ready to protect her daughter with a new weapon of her own: a law degree.
Nora O’Brien busied herself after being widowed by attending law school and is Danny’s new associate, much to Danny’s chagrin. Nora hires criminal attorney Patrick Malloy and his investigator Mellow Donovan to uncover Joe’s clandestine life.
